Who we are

Tailoring adventures to suit your dreams.

Our story

The story of Three Degrees South begins with Piers, fondly known as Pix, who, after a decade of dedicated service in the British Army Royal Logistics Corps, set his sights on Tanzania in search of a new chapter filled with thrilling escapades. In the heart of Tanzania, Pix assumed the role of lead guide and Operations Manager, working alongside his lifelong friend, Ake, who had made Tanzania his home guiding trips across the region since 1999 .

While their initial plans to establish a UK-based enterprise were thwarted by the unexpected arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, the vision and determination to create something exceptional persisted. The dream revolved around fashioning a business that not only embraced the splendor of African travel but also championed the cause of sustainability and community empowerment within the industry.

Fast forward to 2023, as the world emerges from lockdowns and embraces fresh opportunities, Pix and Ake united with their childhood companions, James and another James (yes, conveniently enough), each bringing their unique expertise in finance, marketing, and communications. Together, they breathe life into Three Degrees South, a testament to their unwavering commitment to redefining the essence of African travel, fostering sustainability, and enhancing the lives of local communities. Join us on this extraordinary journey, where every adventure is a step towards a brighter and more responsible future.

Our mission

No compromise on ethics. Ever. It's easy to post a lot of pledges and promises online. You can literally find thousands of travel companies promising they look after their porters and crews. But how do YOU know it's true? 3 Degrees South takes a three pronged approach:

1. We have a in-country manager throughout the year responsible for monitoring and managing our Kilimanjaro climbs and adventures.

2. We are an approved Partner company with the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project – KPAP – and the International Mountain Explorers Connection – IMEC – Partner for Responsible Travel Program. They independently assess our operations (specifically our climb operations) and monitor each and every climb that we run to make sure the following key metrics are always monitored:WagesPorter foodamounts & transparency. We collect this data and assess all ground operations AFTER EVERY TRIP constantly and work hand in hand with all stakeholders to ensure this is progressively improving over time - thereby building local capacity as part of our commitment to you, our guests.
